Operations Supervisor

Job Information
Job Title: Operations Supervisor Department: MRF
Reports To: General Manager Starting Wage: $14-16


The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production activities. Responsible for supervising, coaching, and developing staff. Could be called upon to “fill in” for absent staff when necessary. Manages staff and applies progressive discipline if/when necessary. Responsible for managing material levels and organization. Responsible for following company safety policies and procedures.  Responsible for ensuring that all Sorters remain productive throughout the workday and ensuring that all sorting equipment and processes are functioning properly.


Key Responsibilities
v  Oversee daily production activities

v  Supervise, coach, and develop staff

v  Ensure all Sorters remain productive

v  “Fill in” when necessary for absent staff

v  Manage material levels and organization

v  Inspect recycling material to determine if acceptable or rejected

v  Compare colors, shapes, textures, or grades of recyclable materials to verify conformance to standards

v  Sort recyclable materials into proper locations

v  Troubleshoot sorting equipment failures

v  Follow all required safety policies and procedures

v  Perform other job-related duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications
o   No experience required

o   No education required


Preferred Qualifications
o   Six months or more experience working in a supervisory role

o   Six months or more experience working in a production or manufacturing industry

o   Experience operating a forklift, skid steer, loader, or baling equipment

o   Knowledge of recycling industry, materials, and processes

o   Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control


Physical Demands
o   Must be able to stand for extended periods of time including but not limited to an 9 hour shift.

o   Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. or more occasionally, and/or up to 75 lbs. frequently, and/or 50 lbs. constantly to move objects.

o   Must be able to work in physical conditions including extreme temperatures, wet and/or humid, noise, and vibration.


Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
o  Skills in operating various tools, equipment, and parts

o  Ability to be self-motivated and multi-task

o  Ability to work independently no supervision

o  Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient and safe manner

o  Good follow through ability; adheres to work schedule and follows through on challenges as they arise

o  Ability  to adhere to Company policies and rules set forth; promotes the Company’s safety standards; does not take inappropriate risks

o  Knowledge of common sense

o  Skills in critical thinking, quality control analysis, coordination, active listening, judgment, and decision making

o  Ability to operate recycling conveyor

o  Ability to learn troubleshooting techniques for recycling equipment

o  Ability to lead, coach, and promote a culture of teamwork
